STATEMENT
Further
to my statement regarding BHARAT BANDH on 10th September, 2018
called in consultation with almost all the opposition parties, I would like to
inform that during the period 2010-2014 when the international prices of crude
oil went up to US$ 120 per barrel in the year 2013-14, the domestic prices of
petrol and diesel were not increased to the extent that the citizens of the
country had to feel panic but rather led comfortable life in so far as the
prices of other commodities were also concerned. During the period of this Government, the
international prices of crude oil went to the lowest level i.e.US$ 30 per barrel,
but the domestic prices of petrol and diesel have been raised to the highest
level. This is the difference between the Government for the people which had
experience and the present Government which is immature. Presently, the prices of petrol and diesel
are ranging AT RECORD LEVEL HIGH Rs 80-88 and Rs. 72-80 per litre respectively.
The
previous Government did not increase the domestic prices of petrol and diesel
so high when the international prices of crude oil were at the highest level.
Prices of petrol and diesel in the country have witnessed a steady increase in
the past four years, and increase of more than Rs. 3 in just last three days.
The Government has hiked excise duty on fuels a dozen times in this
period. This has resulted into increase
of Rs.10 per litre in the excise duty on petrol and Rs. 11 per litre excise
duty on diesel. This Government had neither passed on the benefit of low
international prices of crude oil to the consumers in the past four years nor
it has reduced the taxes like excise duty on domestic petrol and diesel. It is not that the people are burdened from
the hike in the petrol and diesel prices alone, but all citizens in the country
are resultantly burdened from the hike in the prices of all essential
commodities. Once again, I appeal the citizens from all corners of the country
to support BHARAT BANDH on 10th September, 2018 which has been
called only for the well being of the general public.
