Credit Based Evaluation System to benefit students – Prof. Brar

)- Guru Nanak Dev University would introduce Credit Based Evaluation System from this academic session. This system ensures continuity in teaching and is flexible in the sense that if any students in unable to give examination due to any reason. He can do so at a later stage but he can not escape from tests or quizzes in any case said Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. S. Brar.




He was speaking in a meeting with the faculty of the University including those from the Regional Centres of Gurdaspur and Jalandhar. It was a first meeting of any Vice-Chancellor in which all the members of University faculty were present to hear him on the new system being introduced on the campuses of the University.



The Vice-Chancellor made a power point presentation and explained to the faculty that the system, which is the practical and prevalent in most parts of the world is transparent. He said that this is based on continuous testing and evaluation and is friendly to both teachers and students. In this system every student is supposed to give two minor and one major examination besides one Quiz based on MCQ in one semester.



He said that the student is evaluated on a 10 point scale and is awarded grades from 10 to 1. He said minimum pass grade will be 4.5. In this system students are evaluated by the same teacher who teaches them. Students are shown their scripts after evaluation, he added. There is no revaluation and moderation in this system. He said that the grades when converted into percentile according to conversion formula will place our students our in an advantageous position over others.



He allayed all the fears of some faculty members about the grading system. Prof. Brar said that grading system in the benefit of students only. More than 350 teachers from all the campuses were present in the meeting.
