Indian Politics after Independence

By Sineen Qureshi

We got independence with too much struggle. But the impact after independence was never felt. During freedom struggle, every Indian sacrificed his life for the freedom of the people and the country. Why can't we feel the pain of people who got us independence? Why we seemed lost? Why the projection after independence did not went well.
Sardar Patel was to be the Prime Minister after Independence. But due to some circumstances, he was not given the opportunity. That became the biggest drawback for our country. As Sardar Patel is known for his dignity and passion for our country. He was called the Iron man of India. He deserves to hold every prestigious position of our country. But he was cornered.
Then the dead of Mahatma Gandhi. He was killed too early. Otherwise his presence might have helped us for a long term.
Then the next prime Minister, who I felt might have made a big difference to our country was our Second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. He joined the office in 1964, but died shortly in the year 1966. As I have read in some articles that his dead was a conspiracy. He was really a true leader, who might have made a big difference to our country. Under his leadership our country must have grown to a great extent. Born to a poor family he knows the value of suffering and the problems of a common man.
His famous slogan was " Jai Jawan Jai Kisan". He might have taken our country to new heights and our presence might have felt globally. His death was a great loss to our country.
After Independence another decision that was against us was the separation of Pakistan. Does it really helped our country to grow better after separation or this decision has been pinching us for the last 50 years? Really difficult to say "but the problem can be felt everywhere in our country".
Then another leader I felt would might have made a difference to our country was Sanjay Gandhi. He was very aggressive, coming from a political family. He had the qualities of being a better leader but unfortunately died in a plane crash. But his son Varun Gandhi I feel has the potential of his father and he is a deserving candidate.
Another one I feel can be a great leader is Priyanka Gandhi. She has the charm, persona and every qualities of a leader and she can be a good leader.
Another Prime Minister who comes to my mind is Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The 11th Prime Minister of India. His presence in the office always benefited a common man. Common man did not suffered to that extent as he is suffering at present. A common man was benefited one way or other under his leadership.
There were many issues he has too deal with especially corruption, opposition and even it took him a long time to reach to this place. His age factor, his health. He has to take care of so many things. If he might have been elected for a second term in the office. Atleast he might have solved many problems or if he might have became the Prime Minister much earlier...it has been a different story for us, where as development is concerned. His peace treaty with Pakistan, that really has set an example of how much we love peace and harmony and we have the potential to turn anyone into friends.
Then the next leader I feel would be eligible for the growth of the country is Narendra Modi. He is the current chief Minister of Gujarat. He is there in this position for the last 10 years. In the span of 10 years. Gujarat has grown a lot in infrastructure and rated as one of the most developed states of our country in recent times.
What else can you expect from a chief Minister? This is what we want, peace, harmony, growth and mutual understanding. Otherwise, in our own country, we will be left alone, unsafe and dejected ?
