A Rower of boat of theatre and literature creation : Prof. Atma Gill

Art may be associated with any field it is a name of continuity of life. The theatre provides thousand opportunities for an artist to live a healthy life and a mirror to the society to have a right way or path.Prof. Atma Singh Gill is as cool & sweet as the water of an old well. He brightened his name in theatre in last few years. He equally established his name as a rower of boat in three dimensions i.e. being a playwright, being a script writer of telefilms, and as an artist of theatre.
Prof. Atma Singh Gill born about three decades back to S. Jaimal Singh and Mrs. Balwinder Kaur at village Sur Singh Distt: Tarn-Taran, very near to border. After his schooling at his native village, he passed his graduation from DAV College Amritsar and did M.A.(Punjabi), M.A (Religious Studies), Diploma in Urdu, M.Phil from G.N.D.University Amritsar . Along with doing Ph.D, he is serving as professor in DAV College Amritsar from last six years.
Prof. Atma Singh Gill performed in “Kali Raat da Chann” at GNDU directed by young TV artist Markuspal Gumtala & written by Dr. Davinder Kumar, marked his exclusive step in theatre & bestowed with Best Actor Award too. He also performed under the commendable direction of prominent director Mr. Kewal Dhaliwal. He performed in around one and half dozen plays consisting ‘Dhamak Nagaare Di’, ‘Mitti Rudan kare’, ‘Panjo’, ‘kali raat da Chann’, ‘Us nu kahin’, ‘Nawan Janam’, ‘Ik see beri’ etc. are the prominent one.

nder the competent direction of famous film and Punjabi theatre director H.R.D. Singh, Prof. Atma Singh Gill enacted in half dozen of telefilms. He not only enacted, but also his written scripts marked his identity with distinction. Profound script of telefilm “Gurpura Sukhdata” presenting against spiritualism in society written by worthy Prof. Atma Singh Gill, is recently released with the industrious efforts of Mata Kaulan ji Bhalayi Kendra Amritsar and Bhai Guriqbal Singh. Besides this ‘Dhan Dhan Baba Budha ji’, ‘Nashian de wapari’, ‘Partange Paani’, ‘Parvaaz’, ‘Amritsar jithe kehnde Rab wasda’ etc. are written by Prof. Atma Singh Gill worth to be admired. The object behind his writing is to raise a voice against the social evils and to overcome them. Prof. Atma Singh Gill also participated in programmes like Lishkara, Baisakhi, Mela & sang a patriotic songs at Doordarshan Kendra Jalandhar. He treasured around 200 self originated songs and gazzals.
The rower of this boat of theatre i.e. Prof. Atma Singh Gill is propelling it & helping society to be aware of their culture. He marked a new dimension by depicted a life force in his book “Khooh te khooh di Lokdhara”, to alive the significance of well in Punjabi Culture. In his second book “ Punjabi Lokdhara de Vibhin Pasaar.” He reflects loss of various behaviors/dealings of Culture.
Prof. Atma Singh Gill’s “Bharoon Hatya : Atit te Vartmaan” are the marvelous Essays and were subject to discussion in various newspapers & magazines. His participation in National & International Conferences marked him with distinction.

The laurel of his remarkable Achievements goes to Theatre artist Markuspal Gumtala, Dr. Gurmit Singh & artist of his domestic Theatre i.e. his lifepartner Sub District Nodal Officer Jagdeep Kaur. So being a Rower, Prof. Atma Singh Gill may propel a boat of his achievement with theatre & Literature throughout his life.
