Holy city Amritsar now has been established as a effigy manufacture center. Peoples always demanded Amritsar made different types effigy of Rawan, Kumb Karna and Magh Natha. Effigies made in Amritsar have also been exported to near by states like J and K, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. Effigies made in Amritsar have also exported to different cities of Punjab like Jallandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Gurdaspur, Ferozpure, Tarantaran, etc..In Amritsar there are so many experts and workers those have joined the effigy making small scale industry that has been recently established in city. Effigy of Rawan of different sizes have available in Amritsar and also have much less prizes as compared to the effigies made at different areas of the country, that is a reason the people preferred the effigies of Amritsar based.
Due to the festival of Vijay Dashmi, demand of Effigy of Rawana has raised up. Peoples booked effigies bout 2 to 3 month before the festival of . Rate of effigy also depend on the booking and advance payment. Vijay Dashmi.
Peoples demanded effigies of different sizes. Effigies available from 5 feet to maximum 70 feet, rates also varied from size to size, said Joginder Ram, the effigy maker. Joginder said, he has been making effigy from childhood. He learned this art of effigy making from his grandfather Jangli Ram, who was the only man who made effigies in the city that time. Rates of effigy also depends on the designing and style of the effigy. Children usually brought the effigies of size 5 to 15 feet but the societies and Dusherra Associations demanded about 60 to 70 feet sized effigy. Some demanded single eggigy of Rawana and some demanded Rawana with Kumb Karna and Megh Natha's effigies also, added Joginder.
Joginder said five feet single effigy available in rupees 2500 and the 70 feet single effigy available in rupees 55 to 60 thousands. This year demand of effigies increased 3 times then the last year. Many orders booked from the out of the state. These days effigy making work ran day night. In Amritsar about 70 to 80 persons involved in this trade. This is a short term trade but it's output has so heavy disclosed Joginder.
