Top 50 students selected by Progressive Educational Society for crack IIT Entrance Examination

 Top 50 students (Boys & Girls) from the rural area under the Project sponsored by Government of Punjab which has been set up at Khalsa College Public School has been complete here today at the Guru Nanak Bhawan of the Guru Nanak Dev University. These selected students would be admitted to 10+1 class and their formal classes would be start from August 2. They would be given extensive training to crack IIT Entrance Examination along with their holistic development.

This Project was initiated by Progressive Educational Society due to the earnest efforts of Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University and Govt. of Punjab. This type of project is one of its own kinds in India which is started by Govt. of Punjab. Vice-Chancellor thanked the Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal for his personal interest to start this program for the up-liftment of poor and rural youth of the State.
Prof. A. S. Brar, Chairman of the Progressive Educational Society and Vice-Chancellor of the University while blessing the selected students said that it is matter of concern that rural students always lagged behind in every field as compare to urban students. He said this is always due to fewer facilities available to rural students. He said with the starting of this program, these students would get opportunity to get admission in the Indian Institute of Technology.
He said that he had taken up this initiative on the pattern of Bihar State, where an NGO of some professionals imparted coaching to bright students from economically backward sections. He said that this resulted a number of students from lower strata of society had successfully cracked the IIT Entrance Test.
He said that initially this program would be started for five years and subsequently it would be extended keeping in view its success rates. He also thanked Mr. K.S. Pannu, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar for providing help to reach the real deserving students. He said that University would select the right teachers and would provide all essential facilities which would be needed for the students.
S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honorary Secretary of Khalsa College Management Committee while addressing the students appreciated the decision of Punjab Govt. for the upliftment of rural students. He said that the focus of students selected for this programme would be to work hard to achieve their targets.
Mr. K.S. Pannu said that there is total of 67 percent population residing in villages but only 4 percent got opportunity to study in the Institutes of Higher education. But due to starting of this programme maximum students from rural background would be benefited to get admission in the best Institute of India. He also exhorted the students to work hard to fulfill their dreams.
Dr. Saravjeet Kaur Brar, Principal, Khalsa College Public School expressed her happiness over the selection of right students by the committee. She said that holistic development of the students would be their prime target. She said that it is not important to be a good professional but it is more important to be more human being. She pleaded the students to be in discipline and work hard.
She said that these students would be provided all facilities including board and lodge absolutely free. All expenditure to school and other agencies would be reimbursed out of the grant received for the purpose, she added. She said that students would also be provided with free books, study material, stationary and all other requisite facilities. No permanent staff and faculty appointments would be made.
Earlier Dr. M.P.S. Ishar, Secretary of the Society welcomed the selected students and other Chief Guests and Professor M.P. Mahajan presented vote of thanks.
